What to prepare
  • The issued company profits-tax return (BIR51) or IRD notice, including its year and due date.
  • Accounts, ledgers and supporting bank and transaction records; audit status where relevant.
  • Earlier tax returns and assessments available to you, and any outstanding periods.
  • Details of activity, status changes or transactions if seeking the dormant-company fee.

Start your enquiry with the return type and deadline. Please keep identity documents and private tax records out of the initial message; we will confirm how to provide supporting records.

Questions about this return

Can a company with no sales use the dormant fee?

We first review formal status, transactions, earlier periods and the issued return. Having no sales or no bank account does not, by itself, establish formal dormancy, nil-return treatment or an audit exemption. If no return was received, we also check whether chargeability must be notified to the IRD.

Does filing include bookkeeping or audit?

The agreed filing scope covers the company return and tax computation. Accounting preparation, independent audit, earlier-period work and substantive IRD enquiries are separately scoped where required.

Use your actual return or notice and the current year’s extension conditions. We confirm the deadline for the agreed work; no automatic extension is assumed.

Questions about this return

Does annual filing cover staff joining, leaving or departing Hong Kong?

Annual BIR56A/IR56B reporting is separate from IR56E commencement, IR56F cessation and IR56G departure notifications. Confirm the applicable forms and agreed scope; departure cases may also involve tax clearance and withholding duties.

Do I need to respond if there are no employees?

If the IRD has issued BIR56A, it must be completed and returned even where there are no employees. Director payments and other remuneration facts may affect what must be reported.

Use your actual return or notice and the current year’s extension conditions. We confirm the deadline for the agreed work; no automatic extension is assumed.

Questions about this return

What can BIR60 cover?

BIR60 can cover employment, office and pension income, rent from solely owned property and sole-proprietor business profits. Jointly or co-owned property and partnerships may need separate returns. Confirm the accepted preparation scope before work begins.

When is my return due?

Use the due date on the actual return. BIR60 timing depends on its issue date and whether you solely owned an unincorporated business during that year of assessment; any electronic or representative extension depends on the current year’s conditions.

Use your actual return or notice and the current year’s extension conditions. We confirm the deadline for the agreed work; no automatic extension is assumed.
